As the above eludes to I’m wondering what functions are available by computer if connected to the FT-891 by USB cable. Does it mirror the screen on the ft-891?? that would help these 85 year ole eyes.
Unfortunately, your FT-891 does not have a video output port. You cannot connect an additional screen from the USB B connection on the rear of your radio. Yes, you can connect your FT-891 to your computer using a printer type cable, USB A to USB B, but it does not provide for a remote screen, like the FT-710. There is no video output from your FT-891.
From your FT-891 you can connect to auxiliary programs on your computer, like your logging program, WSJT-X for digital modes, Ham Radio Deluxe, N1MM logging, etc. With some work it is possible to get a spectrum display with an external panadapter, but not a full screen that you desire.
As mentioned, the FT-710 has a video output port in the DVI-HD connector on the back and can connect directly to a video screen to see the entire radio face. This is the same for the FTDX-10. Both of these radios also have the USB B connection for digital modes, as mentioned.
Hope this helps.
Harry, I’m not pleased with your answer but I have to appreciate your taking the time to reply. Like said, I don’t like the answer only because I was hoping for a different evaluation. But I’m old enough to accept it. Thank you so much for your well stated reply. As a new General I’m obviously still learning and I’ll never live long enough to achieve the ham knowledge that you ole time hams possess and are willing to share. Thanks again and 73’s
Gene,
I certainly understand. GigaParts takes trade ins on new radios, if sometime in the future you may like to change to an FT-710 with a video output port.
