QRZ-1 Explorer MARS mod

So I paid for and did the MARS mod on my QRZ-1, however, there is no way to monitor any of the MARS frequencies on this radio. Unless I’m doing something wrong or missing something.

Also, with the MARS mod, it allows the radio to transmit and receive on the FRS and GMRS frequencies. That seems to work ok.

Is there a list of all the frequencies with this MARS mod on the QRZ-1?

The MARS mod for the QRZ-1 simply removes the upper and lower band edge limits for transmit on both VHF and UHF. By default, the QRZ-1 won’t allow the user to accidentally transmit outside of the ham bands (144.000 to 147.995MHz and 420.000 to 449.995MHz).

The MARS mod allows the radio to transmit from 136 to 174MHz and 400 to 480MHz. Please keep in mind that it is the operator’s responsibility to legally use the radio within their privileges. MARS members are permitted to use amateur radio equipment on frequencies outside the ham bands that are specified in the exercise they are participating in. We don’t have a list of common frequencies used in MARS exercises, but if a MARS member reads this post and would like to add more information, that would be helpful.

Transmitting on FRS and GMRS frequencies with a QRZ-1 is against the law. The FCC’s type acceptance requirements for those bands specifically excludes ham radios. The only exception to his rule is FCC Part 97.403:

No provision of these rules prevents the use by an amateur station of any means of radiocommunication at its disposal to provide essential communication needs in connection with the immediate safety of human life and immediate protection of property when normal communication systems are not available.
