I Currently have Yaesu FT2980. I’m about to Purchase Yaesu FT 3185. Are they compatible to clone with the self made cable
@Derrick_Cathey
The FT-3185 is capable of being programmed with the RT Systems software

The discontinued FT-2980 can also use the RT Systems software, but uses a different programming cable.
No, you cannot directly clone (radio-to-radio) settings from a Yaesu FT-2980R to a new FT-3185R. Cloning requires identical firmware and hardware protocols, and these are different models
While the FT-3185R is considered the successor to the FT-2980R; their internal memory structures and menu systems are not compatible for direct cloning.
However, you can use the RT Systems software to read the data from the FT-2980, copy the memory channels, and paste them into the FT-3185 file, then write that data to the new radio with the RT Systems software, so you won’t lose your present frequencies.
