I’m new to this but retired from the Army so tactical comms I’m familiar with you could say. I bought two Baofeng UV—5RM handhelds to use as walkie talkies and look to buy a base radio, but want to learn on my handhelds. I have the 64” antenna on them but haven’t even programmed them yet because I’m learning.
Are these classes, I was looking at the four class bundle, comparable with my limited equipment? I’d like to take all four but if they are irrelevant to my equipment then obviously I need to wait. What do you think? I’m leaning it’s a fairly priced group of in-depth classes and my radio model won’t matter.
TIA Ken
HamPrepRadio.com, I’m doing the classes right now as we speak. I’ve done my Tech and General license and working towards my Amateur Extra. I did a bundle package they offer that covers handhelds too. I am also retired military and have my experience playing with radios, but now as civilians we need licenses to operate amateur radio bands like the uv-5r properly without issue from the FCC. Hope this helps.
I also used HamPreRadio.com and took both the Tech and General exams the same day as the first license doesn’t offer much in the way of frequencies. I wasn’t concerned about understanding everything being taught, but took lots of the practice exams until I could score high enough to pass the exams. Once I had my licenses it was easier to continue learning what interests you the most as now you could use the frequencies.
