My paddles are not keying up my IC7300

Icom 7300 purchased from Giga Parts 11/14/24…My morse code paddles are not keying up my IC 7300 …It receives cw and it transmits cw through the mike if you choose that option on the menu…If you check for continuity between the ground wire on the paddles and the rig chassis, there is no continuity. Using a multimeter if you place one lead from the meter on the chassis of the rig and the other to the dit or da wire on the paddles it keys the rig…I can run a wire from the ground wire of the paddles to the rig chassis and it works fine…I have checked the paddles with other rigs and the paddles work fine…I have checked all my settings over and over…and I have done a factory reset… none has helped…I have used different plugs to plug in the paddles to the rig and same result…I seem to be losing connection with the ground at the rig key jack…Its like the key jack in the rig is not touching the end of the plug from the paddles…I have not removed the plug for the paddles from the rig since I put it in when I got it.. until now when the problem occurred …I just turned it on to use it and the paddles didn’t key the radio…Any help would be appreciated.

Your 7300, as you know has an internal keyer. After you set it to CW, be sure to go into the “Function” menu and set it to BK-IN (break-in) so it keys when the paddle is used. You can also use the VOX/BK-IN button on the left of your screen. If you have already done that, you may want to give Icom a call at 425-454-8155 (press #2) or e-mail from

Hope that was some help.
