Is there a radio (2m,70cm) that is ideal for home and also could be temporarily installed in a truck/car aswell. I am looking for something that can do double duty for now. Any suggestions?
@David_Branch
The answer is Yes! Any mobile radio can be used for home and in a vehicle. For your home, you will need a power supply, coax, and an antenna. For your vehicle you need to connect it to your battery, and then have an antenna mount and antenna.
Our best selling radio that has been a proven performer for years and can easily do double duty is the Icom IC-2730A 50W VHF/UHF Dual-Band Mobile Transceiver

Another great radio is the Yaesu FTM-150R 55W FM Dual Band Mobile Transceiver with Super-DX

Both of these radios are in stock and ready to ship. Both are analog radios and I would highly recommend the RT Systems programming software to make programming in local repeaters a breeze. If you are interested in digital radios, which have DSTAR or C4FM, we also have those that fit your needs.
For your home set up I recommend the Intellitron PS-2230DBP 30 Amp Digital Switching Power Supply
and for your home antenna the Comet GP-3 - Dual Band 6ft Base Antenna 2m/70cm UHF
For your vehicle you will need the correct mount or magnetic mount and then how high an antenna you will need.
But both installations you can easily “unplug” the radio and move it from one to the other, connect the power and scew in the coax.
Hope this helps.
Very helpful. Thank you!!
David, I’ll echo the Icom-2730. I’ve had one in my car for five or six years. Put one on my desk a year and a half ago. Bought a new one for my truck, at Christmas. It’s a good performer and easy to use.
