GMRS and mars mod on yaesu 991

Will this mod allow GMRS usage on Yaesu Ft991?

is there any way to accomplish this?

No, our Mars Mod for the FT-991a will not permit GMRS operation. Our Mars Mod approved for this radio only affects operation on 1.8 through 30 MHZ. Our approved Mars Mods for other radios, vhf/uhf only radiosm may permit GMRS operation in the 462 - 467 mhz frequencies.

@Jason_Monroe In addition to Harry’s confirmation that the 991A will not permit GMRS operation, if you are searching for GMRS Transceivers, on our website, that is a live link to get you to them. Thank you for your interest.

Thanks Sue..So, two more questions. Does the mars mod on like the icom IC 2730 expand coverage to include GMRS? Permit transmitting?

Also, the Yaesu 991. You don’t have to buy an additional external speaker do you? There’s already a speaker on the unit itself isn’t there?

Thanks!

Jay

Jason,

Yes the Mars Mod on the Icom 2730a permits transmitting to include GMRS, up to 470 MHZ. Most of these radios already include receiving outside the amateur bands, but the approved Mars Mod is done to permit transmitting.

The Yaesu FT-991a has a great “built in” or internal speaker, so there is no need to purchase an additional speaker unless you want to improve the audio for some reason.

Thank you!

looks like I need to buy a separate power supply for the Yaesu? Is there anything else that’s immediately needed? Besides an antenna of course

Thanks again,

Jason
