FTM-150R Data Port

There’s a data port on the rear of the radio. Can this be used for APRS? As in can I have DireWolf key the radio through this port and send/receive packet data or is the port just for firmware updates etc? Also, what connector? 6 pin? 10 pin?

@John_Knight

Yes the 10 pin mini din on the rear of the FTM-150R can be used for APRS.

The Yaesu FTM-150’s 10-pin Mini-DIN data port provides flat audio (in/out), PTT (Push-to-Talk) control, and serial data, enabling connections for digital modes like APRS (Packet Radio) with modems (TNCs), VARA FM, connecting to GPS units, performing memory programming, and even linking to an external controller for a cross-band repeater setup. It’s a versatile port for getting raw audio and serial data to/from a computer or external device, bypassing the radio’s internal audio processing.

APRS & Digital Modes: Connect a TNC or sound card (like with Direwolf) for packet radio, FLDigi for text/photo transfers, or VARA FM, which uses the audio for higher-speed data.

See page 23 of the manual, and pages 14 - 16 of the advance manual.

You will need a data cable like the SCU-20 (discontinued) or the SCU-58.
