The SCU-39 kit allows you to directly connect the handheld to the USB and audio ports of your computer.

This setup eliminates the need for the conventional HRI-200 internet interface kit for Portable Digital Node operation.

You will need the appropriate USB driver and WIRES-X PC Software (version 1.500 or later), which is available for download from Yaesu’s website.
Alternately, you can use the Yaesu SCU-57 WIRES-X Kit, as the SCU-39 was discontinued and replaced by the Yaesu SCU-57.
Regarding case cracking - I can say that we’ve seen a lot of these radios sold and complaints about the radio in general are rare. It’s a very popular radio!
I would offer this addition. NEVER connect the wires X cable without first download then installing the software from Yaesu.
