Just purchased a new FT3185RASP 2 M Radio. This is the unit that has the RASP audio DSP that folks have talked about already integrated. When I press the S-DX (super DX) button, the audio completely mutes. Audio returns when the S-DX function is off. Tried this on various repeaters and NOAA with same results. Don’t see anything on setup for the S-DX function. I’m thinking I have a defective radio? Any comments welcome Thanks Ray
Sounds like an RTFM situation.
Yesterday I showed the FTX-1 Optima at GP after only an hour or 2 of familiarization, and was unfamiliar with S-DX. My observation was engaging the button on a weak SSB signal seemed to remove white noise from the channel, but moved the speech quality in the direction of electronically reproduced with a notable R2D2 twang. Was it easier to understand? Perhaps.
I speculate that there are adjustments for this feature. And different modes may require different settings for best results, eg FM vs SSB vs CW, etc.
Ultimately, your manual is your friend.

Thanks for responding Bob, The new FT3185RASP is 2M FM only. Only one page in the manual describes the S-DX function, either on or off. Best I can tell it inserts a new audio DSP that appears quite good on the reviews along with a adding an additional RF pre-amp in-line. I’ve also asked Yaesu about this issue last week but no response yet. I’m thinking I’ll return the radio to Gigaparts and have another sent out. 73 Ray
