Cross Band Repeat

Does the IC-2730 have cross band repeater capability?

Charles_Roberts Yes, it does. It is in a menu item as follows

How to activate cross-band repeat

  1. Set up frequencies: Before activating the function, program your desired frequencies for both bands.
  2. Enter the extended menu: Turn the radio off. Then, press and hold the MAIN button on both sides of the display and the MONI button, and turn the radio on.
  3. Navigate to the RPTM option: Press MENU, then rotate the tuning knob to select EXMENU. Press MW (Memory Write), rotate the knob to select OTHERS, and press MW again.
  4. Start the function: Rotate the tuning knob to find RPTM and press MW. Select START and YES to activate the cross-band repeat function. Press MW to confirm.

Important considerations

  • The radio will display rPt on both bands once the function is active.
  • To exit cross-band repeat mode, go back into the menu and select YES to exit the function.
  • For non-US models, a physical modification may be required to enable the cross-band function, notes eham.net.
  • The cross-band repeat feature on the IC-2730a is a “bent pipe,” meaning it repeats a signal as it hears it. It does not add its own tone encoding, which may prevent it from working with some repeaters that require a specific tone (PL) to unmute, says RadioReference.com Forums.
